The bitter feud over the estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur took a dramatic turn when his mother Rani Kapur levelled explosive allegations against her daughter-in-law Priya Kapur in Delhi High Court on Monday. The mother told the High Court that there were serious irregularities at Sona BLW. Joining Sunjay Kapur's children Samaira and Kiaan Kapur from former wife Karisma Kapoor, Rani also raised questions over the authenticity of the Will.
Appearing for Rani, senior counsel Vaibhav Gaggar told court that, "Sunjay Kapur had himself removed Priya Kapur from Sona Group's holding firm AIPL on 31 March 2023, after telling stakeholders something needed to be "reversed" - yet within eight days of his death, Priya regained control of AIPL as MD and within 11 days became a director on Sona BLW."
"The haste, the enthusiasm, the tearing urgency with which Priya Kapur assumed control makes the motives behind the Will even more suspect," Gaggar told the court, arguing that the corporate actions and the Will "cannot be viewed in isolation."
The mother also alleged that Priya was hiding details of Sunjay's assets. "Massive concealment. This house [farmhouse in Delhi's Rajokri area] is built by my late husband. There are more than 50 pieces of artwork there… This gentleman (Sunjay Kapur) had no life insurance, no rental income, and mutual funds? Just his salary was Rs 60 crore, and we are saying that he has only Rs 1.7 crore in his accounts," Rani Kapur told the court.
Gaggar further said that Rani Kapur was not only left out from the Will but also not even mentioned once in the entire document by her son. "An 80-year-old has been told today that she has not even been mentioned in the Will. There is not even a whisper about her. That she has no ownership in the company built by her husband, which was exclusively left to her."
As Gaggar concluded his arguments, the High Court said it will hear the matter next on December 3.
The senior counsel made the submission before Justice Jyoti Singh, who was hearing an interim injunction plea filed by Karisma Kapoor's two children seeking to restrain Priya Kapur from creating any third-party rights over the assets of their father, Sunjay Kapur.
In their main suit, the siblings allege that their stepmother, Priya Kapur - Sunjay Kapur's third wife - forged his will in an attempt to seize complete control of his estate. At the heart of the dispute is a will dated March 21, 2025, which purportedly bequeaths Sunjay Kapur's entire personal estate to Priya Sachdeva Kapur.
