Chaos prevailed at Bengaluru’s Yeshwantpur railway station on December 15 after a group of passengers allegedly created a ruckus by repeatedly pulling the alarm chain of Yeshwantpur-Vasco da Gama Express and subsequently assaulting RPF personnel.

According to railway officials, the incident occurred around 3pm/ Alarm chain pulling was observed in coach S3 of train no. 17309, prompting Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel deployed on the platform to intervene.

“During the departure of Train no. 17309, Yeshwantpur-Vasco da Gama Express, alarm chain pulling was observed in coach S3. RPF staff deployed on the platform for the safe passage of the train immediately responded and approached the coach,” Bengaluru Divisional Railway Manager Ashutosh K Singh said.

He added that around 14 passengers travelling in the coach objected to the RPF’s intervention and failed to comply with instructions. “The group subsequently physically manhandled the RPF staff. With the assistance of additional personnel, the situation was brought under control,” Singh said.

Three persons, who were found to be under the influence of alcohol, were detained by the RPF and legal action has been initiated against them, officials said.
