Two urban tunnels and two elevated corridors to decongest Bengaluru will cost Rs 36,950 crore, said Karnataka deputy CM DK Shivakumar on July 31.

At a meeting with PM Narendra Modi, Shivakumar, who holds the Bengaluru development portfolio, said: "Feasibility studies have indicated that the construction of two urban tunnels and two elevated corridors is necessary for decongesting Bengaluru city. These projects can be implemented using annual budget allocations for decongesting erstwhile National Highways."

He said feasibility studies have shown that urban tunnels are the most effective solution for connecting National Highway-7 from Hosur to Bellary Road and KR Pura to Mysuru Road. "This approach minimises traffic disruptions at ground level and reduces the cost of land acquisition."
