One of the 288 constituencies of Maharashtra, Rishod is located in Washim district. The assembly constituency, which votes on November 20, is part of Akola Lok Sabha constituency along with five other assembly segments of Akot, Balapur, Akola West, Akola East and Murtizapur. Constituency number 33 for the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Rishod was formed in 2008.
The Rishod assembly constituency has been a Congress bastion, with the grand old party emerging victorious in all three Maharashtra elections - 2009, 2014 and 2019.
Who are the key contenders?
The Congress has once again fielded Amit Subhashrao Zanak, who has been representing the constituency since 2014. While Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) has nominated Bhavana Pundlikrao Gawali from Rishod for the November 20 elections, Anantrao Deshmukh is fighting the polls as an Independent candidate.
Deshmukh was associated with the Congress party from 1974 to 2009 and 2013-2019. He contested election independently from Risod in 2019 but did not taste success.
Rishod constituency: Past election results
In the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, Congress' Amit Subhashrao Zanak won the seat defeating Independent candidate Anantrao Vitthalrao Deshmukh. Shiv Sena had fielded Sanap Viswanath Ashruji.
Rishod, which is a general category assembly seat, recorded 67.92% voter turnout in the 2019 Maharashtra assembly election.
Zanak, as a Congress candidate, had emerged victorious in the 2014 assembly election as well. The Rishod assembly constituency was represented by Amit Subhashrao Zanak's father Subhash Zanak from 2009 to 2013. The latter passed away in October 2013 due to cardiac arrest.

The Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) are constituents of the MVA along with the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar). The opposition bloc is locked in a close fight with the ruling Mahayuti front in the elections to the 288-member assembly on November 20. Votes will be counted three days later, on November 23.
