Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday brought up the issue of air pollution in the Parliament, saying the party is ready to work in tandem with the ruling government over the matter.

“Most of our major cities are living under a blanket of poisonous air. Millions of children are getting lung disease. Their future is being destroyed. People are getting cancer. Older people are struggling to breathe. This is an interesting issue because I am certain that there will be full agreement between the government and us on this issue,” the leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said.

Gandhi said air pollution is not an ideological issue, adding that everyone in the House agrees on the need to work together to address the harm it is causing to people. “Everybody in this house would agree that air pollution, the damage it is doing to our people, is something that we would like to cooperate on,” he said.

Calling upon the government to draw up a plan to tackle air pollution, Rahul Gandhi said the Congress would also get involved in developing the same. He also sought a discussion in the Parliament over the crisis, which is a matter of grave concern today.
