As President Droupadi Murmu completed three years in office on Friday, a series of new initiatives were launched at Rashtrapati Bhavan and the President's Estates to mark the occasion. These efforts focused on accessibility, inclusion, digital outreach, and sustainability.
One of the major highlights was the official declaration of Rashtrapati Bhavan as a Divyangjan-friendly campus. This includes the Amrit Udyan and Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum, which have now been made accessible following the implementation of 50 recommendations from the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities.
To improve digital access and inclusivity, Rashtrapati Bhavan's official websites were launched in 22 Indian languages.
Several visitor and resident-focused facilities were also inaugurated, including a new Visitor Facilitation Centre at Rashtrapati Bhavan, ‘Nilayam Nikunj’ at Rashtrapati Nilayam in Hyderabad, and a cafeteria, souvenir shop, and reception area at Rashtrapati Niwas in Mashobra. A newly renovated gym was also opened within the President’s Estate.
President Murmu also launched an e-book compiling key moments from her third year in office and announced the commencement of efforts to make Rashtrapati Bhavan a Net Zero campus by March 2027.
Speaking at the event, the President said it was satisfying that over the past three years, several steps have been taken to boost citizen engagement with Rashtrapati Bhavan.
“It is always our endeavour to effectively connect all sections of society, especially the underprivileged and backwards classes, with the country’s development journey,” she said.
She also expressed happiness over the improved accessibility for persons with disabilities and said she was confident that more such inclusive initiatives would follow.
