Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor was on January 7 hospitalised after his health deteriorated since last evening. He was on an indefinite hunger strike since January 2 in support of civil service aspirants to press the demand for cancellation of Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examinations held last month amid allegations of question paper leak.

Party leaders took Kishor to a private healthcare facility in Patna in an ambulance after a doctor visited him at his home and advised hospitalisation. "There are certain medical issues that need to be thoroughly examined. He is suffering from infection and dehydration. He is also weak and feeling discomfort," said the doctor.

Before leaving for the hospital, Kishor - who began the hunger strike last week - said, "My fast unto death will continue". The former political strategist was arrested for an 'illegal' fast unto death on Monday but later released on bail.

The 47-year-old was arrested for his illegal fast unto death and sent to jail upon refusal to accept bail, granted by the court in Patna with conditions that he alleged were "unreasonable".
