The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out two back-to-back flight tests of the 'Pralay' missile on July 28 and 29 from Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.
These tests were part of user evaluation trials to assess both the missile’s minimum and maximum strike range.
In an official statement, DRDO said both missiles "followed the intended trajectory and accurately hit the target points," meeting all test objectives.
What is 'PRALAY'?
‘PRALAY’ is a solid-fuel, short-range ballistic missile developed entirely in India. Designed for battlefield use, the missile is capable of carrying different types of conventional warheads weighing between 350 and 700 kilograms.
It has a strike range of 150 to 500 km, making it suitable for hitting enemy logistics hubs, command centres and airbases.
The missile features advanced navigation and avionics systems that allow it to make mid-course trajectory adjustments, making it difficult to intercept once launched. It’s equipped with a solid propellant rocket motor, enabling quick-launch capability and high precision.
Senior DRDO scientists, as well as representatives from the Indian Army, Air Force, and the defence industry, were present during the trials.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the teams involved, saying the missile’s success will provide "a significant technological boost" to the Armed Forces in countering emerging threats.
Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman, also praised the teams and said the successful trials mark the completion of Phase-1 and pave the way for the missile’s induction into the Armed Forces.
