Trump also addressed immigration issues, stating that the two countries were in discussions regarding the repatriation of illegal immigrants. When asked if PM Modi had agreed to accept illegal immigrants, Trump replied, “He will do what’s right. We are discussing.” As per reports, both nations have identified approximately 18,000 Indian nationals residing illegally in the US.

Trump reiterated his stance on cracking down on illegal immigration while remaining open to legal migration for skilled workers. India, known for its large pool of IT professionals, accounts for a significant share of H-1B visas issued annually by the US.

In his remarks following the conversation, PM Modi shared on microblogging site X, "Delighted to speak with my dear friend President @realDonaldTrump. Congratulated him on his historic second term. We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership. We will work together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity, and security."
