Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid a surprise visit to the Adampur air base in Punjab to salute the IAF personnel who were part of the Operation Sindoor mission. One of the pictures from his visit stood out, and later went viral on X, since it featured the S-400 air defence system in the background.
Notably, this was the very S-400 system that Pakistan claimed to have destroyed during its missile attack on India.
In the picture, PM Modi can be seen saluting the airmen with the missile launchers of the Russia-made AD system clearly visible in the background.
Netizens were quick to notice this and flooded the post with memes and comments, mocking Pakistan for its claims that turned out to be false. "Look at the background of each picture. There's a statement for Pakistan and the world," one user commented.
"A picture at Adampur Airbase, with 2 reasons behind Pakistan’s surrender in the shortest possible time; 1. S-400 represents the might of the Indian Military 2. Modi Ji represents the visionary leadership," another user said.
During the four-day intense military conflict with India, Pakistan had claimed that one of its JF-17 fighter jets had destroyed the S-400 air defence system at the strategic Adampur base.
Earlier, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh had rejected this claim and lashed out at the neighbour for its malicious misinformation campaign.
During a media briefing on Operation Sindoor, Singh said: "Pakistan has also attempted to execute a continued malicious misinformation campaign, with claims of destruction of the Indian S-400 system, destruction of airfields at Surat and Sirsa... India unequivocally rejects these false claims being spread by Pakistan."
In other pictures shared from the Prime Minister's handle, Modi can be seen waving his fist in the air along with the air men, addressing the personnel in front of a MiG-29, and greeting the brave men who were involved in the courageous mission against Pakistan.
In another post, Modi said: "Earlier this morning, I went to AFS Adampur and met our brave air warriors and soldiers. It was a very special experience to be with those who epitomise courage, determination and fearlessness. India is eternally grateful to our armed forces for everything they do for our nation."
The state-of-the-art S-400 Triumf helped India thwart Pakistani drones and missiles during the conflict, successfully intercepting scores of threat vectors.
S-400 is a long-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system developed by Russia's Almaz Central Design Bureau. It is widely regarded as one of the most advanced air defence systems in the world, capable of tracking, targeting and destroying a variety of aerial threats—including aircraft, drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles—at various altitudes and ranges.
