Veteran DRDO scientist Sudhir Kumar Mishra on Friday lauded the Indian systems deployed during Operation Sindoor, stating their success has significantly boosted the confidence of the Armed Forces. Mishra is a former DRDO DG and former MD & CEO of BrahMos Aerospace. He currently holds the DRDO chair (Prof. S Bhagavantham).
“We are very happy that Indian systems, not only Akash and BrahMos but electronic warfare, communication, ammunition, radars and others have all been used either in the foreground or background. It has given huge confidence to the Armed Forces,” he said at the Powering Bharat Summit in an interaction with Moneycontrol's Managing Editor Dr Nalin Mehta.
The recent conflict involved more than just Pakistan -- it also saw backing from China, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Western-made equipments, he said, adding that India’s indigenous technologies “proved their mettle” against their sophisticated equipments.
Earlier today, defence minister Rajnath Singh had also confirmed the usage of 'BrahMos' supersonic missiles in Operation Sindoor and said the weapon showed Pakistan the "light of day in the darkness of night". He also mentioned about Akash missiles which also played a key role in the conflict.
“The lessons from BrahMos are many – the first thing is that BrahMos is a very potent universal weapon. It goes with brute force, impossible for anyone to stop it but at the same time, it costs more. Thousands of people have contributed in the success of BrahMos in various times. We conducted more than 130 tests, in every test some parameters were improved,” Mishra said.
“The learning lesson was if you go to L1 (lowest price), then you will not always get the best, you should always go to T1 (best technology),” he added.
As part of Operation Sindoor, India on early May 7 destroyed nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan as well as Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Pakistan subsequently carried several strikes, which went on until May 10, when both sides agreed to halt hostilities after four intense days of conflict.
