Following the controversy over alleged animal fat in the ghee used for Tirupati laddus, the Odisha government has decided to conduct a quality check on the ghee used in the Puri Jagannath Temple.

Puri district collector Sidharth Shankar Swain announced the decision on Tuesday, saying that the measure is intended to prevent any adulteration in offerings at the 12th-century temple.

While there have been no complaints regarding the quality of ghee used, Swain said the administration decided to proceed with an examination to ensure its purity.

The Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (OMFED), a government-owned entity, has been supplying ghee to the temple for several years.
