Saurav and Gaurav Luthra are currently spending their time in Jail after a court in North Goa sent them to a five-day police custody following the deadly fire in their Birch nightclub on December 6, which claimed 25 lives.
A report by News18 said that the lockup that the Luthra brothers are currently in has no fan and they are being kept without a mattress or a blanket. They also had a simple meal of dal, rice and pickle.
The report also mentioned that the Goa Police have started investigating and questioning both brothers in the case. Reportedly, the Luthra brothers were asked a series of 80 questions regarding their associates' roles, finances, how they took decisions, other partners, organisers and managers.
Meanwhile, News18 earlier reported that the Luthra brothers were not cooperating in the probe and were complaining of different medical issues every few hours. However, with several medical tests done on them in 36 hours, nothing was found medically wrong with the sibling duo.
Their lawyer PV Pavithran has asked the court to give them a mattress saying that Saurav “suffered from a problem related to the spinal disc" and Gaurav “suffered from a tailbone fracture problem".
However, after medical tests, the judge denied their request saying the doctors have declared them medically fit.
The brothers had booked their tickets to Thailand shortly after the fire started at the nightclub. After the Goa Police intervened and asked them to return to India immediately, they flatly refused, following which they were deported and brought back to Delhi, where they were formally arrested.
They now face a case of culpable homicide and negligence after the December 6 fire. The probe experts close to the matter have said that the nightclub was operating in violation of the mandatory fire safety norms.
The December 6 fire is said to have started during a fire show at the nightclub, prompting an Interpol Blue Corner Notice against the Luthras.
