Nipah virus infection count in Kozhikode goes up to 5, contact list starts to swell | Details

What is Nipah Virus: Nipah is a zoonotic virus transmitted from animals to humans, according to WHO. However, it can also be transmitted through contaminated food or directly between people.

The Centre has rushed a team to Kerala after the state was put on alert for Nipah virus’ ‘Bangladesh strain’.  The deadly, brain-infecting pathogen has so far infected five people in Kerala.

According to reports, 700 people have come into contact of the patients. Out of these 700, about 77 are in the high-risk category.
