The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has unanimously authorised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief JP Nadda to pick the ruling bloc's vice presidential candidate.
After the meeting, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju told the media, "The date for the filing of nomination for the election of the Vice-President of India will be till 21st of August. The polling will be held on 9th September and counting will also be on the same day. In the NDA meeting, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, it was unanimously decided that the NDA has given authorisation to start the process, including the selection of candidate to PM and leader of the house in Rajya Sabha, JP Nadda. The decision taken by the Prime Minister will be accepted by all the NDA parties"
The meeting of key BJP leaders and their allies was held at the Parliament complex where the decision was taken. Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah besides JP Nadda, JD(U)'s Lalan Singh, Shiv Sena's Shrikant Shinde, TDP's Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, and Chirag Paswan of LJP (Ram Vilas) were among those who attended the meeting.
