Mumbai Metro has worked out a 25 percent discount on fare for senior citizens, disabled, and students, according to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The discounted tariffs are applicable from the Maharashtra Day on May 1, according to a report by news agency UNI.
This discount will be available to thousands of passengers in this category using the Mumbai 1 National Common Mobility Card.
Moneycontrol could not independently verify this development. For 45 or 60 trips, Mumbai-1 Passes are discounted for senior citizens, students, and disabled passengers.
According to Shinde, the Mumbai Metro network was designed with senior citizens, disabled people, and children in mind so that they could benefit from it as much as possible.
"Earlier we made ST bus travel free for senior citizens and women were given 50 percent discount. We have taken these decisions in the spirit of the society and I hope that more people will travel the Metro Rail because of this discount. This facility is for senior citizens above 65 years, students studying up to class 12 and people with permanent disabilities," Shinde said.
To qualify for concessions, passengers in these three categories must submit certain documents. PWDs and senior citizens are required to provide valid documents such as government/medical organization certificates, while students can submit their school identity cards.
