Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed and at least five others were injured when armed men ambushed a vehicle of the paramilitary force in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Friday evening, officials told PTI.
The attack took place around 6 pm in the district’s Nambol Sabal Leikai area. “A group of gunmen ambushed the vehicle in which Assam Rifles personnel were travelling towards Bishnupur district from Imphal, claiming the lives of two jawans and injuring three,” one of the officials said.
Police and local residents rushed to the spot and shifted the injured personnel to a nearby hospital. “The injured have been taken to a hospital by police and locals,” another official confirmed.
Governor Condemns Attack
The Governor of Manipur strongly condemned the incident, paying tribute to the two fallen jawans who, he said, “made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.”
Expressing deep grief, the Governor extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. Reiterating that such “heinous acts of violence will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” the Governor assured that they would be met with the strongest resolve to safeguard peace and stability in the region.
