Lady doctor to i20 driver: Key figures in Delhi Red Fort blast & Faridabad terror module bust

The blast near Red Fort on Monday evening came hours after eight people, including three doctors, were arrested and 2,900 kg of explosives seized with the uncovering of a “white collar” terror module involving the Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind and spanning Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

Among the people who were arrested on Monday were Dr Muzammil Ganaie and Dr Shaheen Saeed -- both with associations to the Al-Falah university in Faridabad, from where 360 kg of ammonium nitrate was recovered.

Here’s a look at some of the key faces from Delhi blast and the Faridabad terror module bust

-Dr Umar Nabi

With the investigation currently unfolding in the Delhi blast case, it is believed that Dr Umar Nabi, a medical professional turned terror suspect, could have triggered the blast.

Nabi is believed to have died in the Monday evening explosion that left at least 12 dead. Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday obtained a DNA sample from his mother to verify the link. "We have taken the DNA sample in order to match with the parts found at the scene of the blast," an official in Srinagar told PTI.

Born in 1989, Umar was reportedly a close associate of Dr Adeel, another suspect under investigation in the ongoing terror network investigation. He was employed as a doctor at Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad.

According to officials cited by CNN-News18, he was part of a group of medical professionals radicalised through encrypted Telegram channels, forming what investigators are now calling the “Faridabad module."

-Shaheen Saeed

Shaheen – arrested in connection with a major explosives haul in Faridabad -- was leading the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed’s women recruitment wing in India. She was handed charge of the India branch of the JeM's women's wing, Jamaat ul-Mominaat, which is headed by JeM founder Masood Azhar's sister Sadia Azhar in Pakistan.

Her husband Yusuf Azhar was a mastermind in the Kandahar hijacking and was reportedly killed during Operation Sindoor on May 7, according to a report by NDTV.

Investigators say she shared a close connection with Muzzamil, the primary accused from whom major recoveries were made. Reports suggest she was in a relationship with him, effectively tying her to the core network alleged to have planned the explosion.

According to a CNN-News18 report, citing sources, Shaheen made multiple visits to Jammu and Kashmir and her movements are now under observation. Investigators, cited in the report, suspect she was not only aware of the planned attack but also played a role in funding it.

-Tariq Ahmad Malik

As the investigation progresses, authorities have accused 44-year-old Tariq Ahmad Malik of involvement in a security breach in the national capital. Malik is among three suspects detained from Samboora village in Jammu and Kashmir in connection with Monday evening’s explosion near Red Fort, that claimed 12 lives.

-Dr Muzammil Shakil

Dr Muzammil Shakil was taken into custody on Monday morning after authorities recovered 360 kg of explosive material and ammunition from his rented residence in Dhauj village, Faridabad. Just hours later, a high-intensity blast struck Delhi, resulting in 12 fatalities.

His family, however, has denied allegations against him, claiming that they are not being allowed to meet him. "He left home about four years ago. He was working as a doctor in Delhi. We had no information about him during this time. When he was arrested, we learned about it from others. We tried to meet him, but the police did not allow us," his mother told news agency ANI.
