Kerala BJP's vice-president, C Sadanandan Master, said that a day before the official announcement of his nomination to the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi called him to accept the responsibility, according to News18.
“We want you to accept this responsibility. Kerala matters deeply to us," he said PM told him.
“PM Modi has always expressed his concern about the state, and made it clear how crucial Kerala is to him. He called me on Friday and urged me to step forward to fulfill my mission of transforming Kerala into a flourishing state, free of political violence and intimidation," Sadanandan said.
His nomination is seen as more than a political gesture and is widely regarded as recognition of decades of grassroots ideological work by the RSS in Kerala, particularly in Kannur, long known as a stronghold of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
“I come from Mattanur in Kannur, a district where over 100 RSS karyakartas have lost their lives in political violence over the years. This nomination is a tribute to their sacrifices. Since 1949, the Sangh has been standing its ground here,” he said.
PM Modi congratulated Sadanandan after the announcement and appreciated him for his efforts as a teacher & social worker.
"Shri C. Sadanandan Master’s life is the epitome of courage and refusal to bow to injustice. Violence and intimidation couldn’t deter his spirit towards national development. His efforts as a teacher and social worker are also commendable. He is extremely passionate towards youth empowerment. Congratulations to him for being nominated to the Rajya Sabha by Rahstrapati Ji. Best wishes for his role as MP," he posted on X.
Sadanandan in 1994 survived a brutal attack in which he lost both legs, allegedly carried out by CPM cadres. Post-attack, he was shifted to Thrissur by the Sangh and later took on a political role in the BJP.
“This is not just a personal moment, but an institutional milestone. From grassroots mobilisation to cultural outreach, the Sangh has built its presence across Kerala. With support growing among Christian communities and expansion across mandals and taluks, this recognition was long overdue," said a senior RSS leader.
