The Central government on November 18 appointed K. Sanjay Murthy as the new Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
A finance ministry notification issued late on Monday said, "The President has been pleased to appoint Shri K. Sanjay Murthy to be the Comptroller and Auditor General of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office."
He is currently serving as the secretary of the higher education department in the Union ministry of education. Murthy is a 1989 batch IAS officer belonging to the Andhra Pradesh cadre.
Murthy will replace Girish Chandra Murmu, who was appointed as the CAG in August 2020. Murmu was previously the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir following the formation of the new Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
