Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is pitching big. On Friday, he announced that the state will build Bharat Future City in Hyderabad, a project his office is billing as one of the most advanced urban centres in the country, designed to compete with global benchmarks.
Spread across 30,000 acres in its first phase, the mega-city will be carved into nine zones, including an AI City, a Health Zone, and an Education Zone. The CM, according to PTI, called it the centrepiece of his 'Telangana Rising 2047' blueprint, a long-term strategy to turn the state into a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion powerhouse by 2047.
Zoning the state for growth
Revanth Reddy explained that the state will be reimagined into concentric economic zones.
- Core Urban: Inside the Outer Ring Road (160 km) will serve as the state’s urban heart.
- Manufacturing Zone: The belt between the Outer Ring Road and the proposed Regional Ring Road (360 km) will be earmarked for semi-urban, manufacturing-led growth.
- Rural Economy: Areas outside the Regional Ring Road will continue to power Telangana’s rural economy.
“This zoning strategy will allow Telangana to scale its economy systematically, while balancing urban and rural priorities,” Reddy said.
Climate resilience at the centre
The CM emphasised that climate resilience is as critical as economic ambition.
“The future will belong to cities that can best manage the water and climate crisis,” he told business leaders and policy professionals from global and Indian corporations.
Hyderabad, he promised, will become India’s first city to mitigate risks from climate change, including droughts and urban flooding. Plans include creating an Urban Water Grid by rejuvenating the Musi river, restoring lakes and strengthening nallahs.
Knowledge, skills and global campuses
Another pillar of Bharat Future City is making Hyderabad a knowledge hub. Reddy said his government is in talks with top global universities to set up offshore campuses in Telangana. These will feed into local initiatives such as the Young India Skills University, YI Sports University, and YI Integrated Residential Schools.
The idea: a talent ecosystem that supports both basic education and advanced skill-building to power future industries.
Attracting industry, building alternatives
The CM said Bharat Future City, along with projects like the Regional Ring Road, Regional Ring Rail, Musi rejuvenation, and the Manufacturing Zone, would be gamechangers for the state.
He added that Telangana will position itself as a 'China +1' alternative in manufacturing, aiming to attract global supply chains looking to diversify.
“We are creating opportunities for the future. We are going to set the new standard for an Indian city,” Reddy said, inviting companies and professionals to join the Telangana Rising vision.
