Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on June 20 granted bail to chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money laundering case linked to the alleged liquor policy scam.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief is likely to walk out of jail tomorrow. The court ordered Kejriwal's release on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh but imposed certain conditions including that he will not try to hamper the investigation or influence any witness.
"Today Arvind Kejriwal was granted by the Rouse Avenue court on a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh. By tomorrow afternoon, he will come out of jail. This is a big win for AAP leaders, the country and people," advocate Rishikesh Kumar, AAP legal team, said.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had sought a stay on the order and asked the court to give 48 hours to sign the bail bond so that the order could be challenged in the higher court.
The judge, however, said there will not be any stay on the order. The bail bond will be produced before the duty judge tomorrow.
Special judge Niyay Bindu passed the order after hearing arguments advanced by the prosecution and the defence counsel on Kejriwal's application for regular bail.
Soon after Kejriwal was granted bail, AAP took to X - formerly Twitter- to say that truth cannot be defeated, only harassed.
Reacting to the development, AAP leader Atishi said 'Satyamev Jayate' (truth alone triumphs).
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann too hailed the development and said 'truth triumphs'. "Faith in the court - Kejriwal ji gets bail - truth triumphs," he posted on X.
The court had on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of Kejriwal in the case till July 3.
Kejriwal was arrested by the probe agency on March 21 in a money laundering case linked to the now scrapped excise policy. On May 10, he was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court till June 1 in view of Lok Sabha elections. The Delhi CM had surrendered before Tihar jail authorities on June 2 as per the condition and has been there since then.
