The Shiv Sena faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde fielded Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora from Worli for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. Deora will be up against Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Aaditya Thackeray.
In January, Deora bid farewell to the Congress after details emerged about the long-time Congress leader trying to find a party that needed his skills.
Deora is currently a Rajya Sabha member and is a three-time MP from South Mumbai. He was given the task of handling the Worli constituency during the Lok Sabha polls.
Despite being Aaditya’s constituency, the Worli assembly saw a mere 6,500 vote lead for UBT in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Deora and Aaditya are up against Sandeep Deshpande of the MNS.
In the 2019 assembly polls, Aaditya, the first member of the Thackeray family to contest an election, made his poll debut by defeating his NCP rival Suresh Mane with a margin of over 70,000 votes.
Maharashtra assembly elections will take place on November 20 and counting of votes will be held on November 23.
"I am very confident that people will bless me with their love & votes because we are about to form govt in Maharashtra. That's for sure," Thackeray said ahead of filing nomination papers.
On Maha Vikas Aghadi seat-sharing, he said, "All of that will happen. What is important is to defeat Eknath Shinde and BJP that have looted Maharashtra."
