This was the second quake impacting the national capital and surrounding region in two days, with the epicenter being Jhajjar. On Thursday, an earthquake of magnitude 4.4 struck near Jhajjar in Haryana, sending tremors across the Delhi-NCR region.
The epicentre was 3 km northeast of Jhajjar and 51 km west of Delhi. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 km at 9.04 am, the NCS had said.
Despite being moderate, the tremors shook homes and sent residents of high-rises in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad running for safety. Videos of residents rushing out of high-rise buildings were extensively shared across social media platforms.
While there has been no damage or casualties reported from the quakes so far, the sudden back-to-back tremors have sparked concerns among the residents. With the epicentre being located very close to the national capital, tremors were very strong and noticeable to the residents.
Delhi falls under Seismic Zone IV and is prone to moderate-to-strong earthquakes, making localised tremors more pronounced.
