As 2024 draws to a close, bringing the curtains down on a hectic year that saw elections to the Lok Sabha as well as eight state assemblies, the poll focus now shifts to Delhi where elections are expected to be held in mid-February.
The year began with Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim in April followed by polls to the Andhra Pradesh and Sikkim assemblies that were held alongside the Lok Sabha elections between May and June. Next came the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections in September, the first since the abrogation of Article 370, and in Haryana during the September-October period.
The Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections that concluded in November were the last major polls to be held during the year. Contrary to 2024, there are only two major elections scheduled to be held in 2025 – Delhi in February and Bihar in October-November.

The Election Commission undertakes a special summary revision of electoral rolls before announcing elections in any state or UT. The purpose of the exercise is to allow maximum participation of eligible voters in the polling exercise. The EC has informed that the final electoral roll for Delhi elections will be published on January 6, 2025. The dates for the polls can be announced any time after the conclusion of this exercise.
When were Delhi elections held in 2020?
The Delhi Assembly elections were held on February 8, 2020, and the results were declared on February 11. The term of the previous Assembly constituted in 2015 concluded on February 22, 2020.
