The novel coronavirus pandemic has spread across 187 countries and territories. Today is the forty-second day of India’s nationwide lockdown, which has been extended till May 17. Restrictions have been eased, particularly in non-hotspot areas. Confirmed COVID-19 cases in India stand at 46,433. The death toll from the outbreak in India is at 1,568. Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi have reported the highest number of cases.
Globally, there have been over 35.9 lakh confirmed cases of COVID-19. At least 2.51 lakh people have died so far. The United States, Spain, Italy, UK, France and Germany are the most-affected countries. Catch the latest updates here:

This is how much the evacuation flights will cost
Offering details on the flights planned to evacuate stranded Indians across the world, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said the London-Mumbai flight will have a fare of about Rs 50,000.
Similarly, flights from US, including those originating from San Francisco and Newark, will cost about Rs 1 lakh. A Dhaka-Delhi flight will cost Rs 12,000.
The government had made it clear on May 4 that passengers will have to pay for their flights back home.
Confirming Moneycontrol report, Puri added that in total 64 flights will be operated in the first week of evacuation. About 15,000 Indians will be brought home.

Alcohol consumption in India to touch 6.5 billion litres by 2020
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has allowed standalone alcohol shops to operate by following strict social distancing orders.
This decision came in phase three and after 40 days of the nationwide lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. However, it left the final decision regarding their opening with state governments.
"Standalone shops will be allowed to sell liquor in orange and green zones. Persons visiting the shops will have to maintain a distance of at least six feet from each other," the notification read.
The liquor industry contributes the maximum tax revenue to the government and relaxation in the sale of liquor will help the government generate some revenue during this crises.

The Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Dr Randeep Guleria, in an interview to a newspaper, said while the lockdown has helped flatten the curve, no visible dip in the number of COVID-19 cases is a concern.
"While the lockdown has helped in flattening the curve, the curve has not shown a downward trend. That is a cause for concern. That is why the next four to six weeks will be very, very important because the lockdown cannot be there forever," Dr Guleria told the newspaper.

The Supreme Court of India (SC) has declined to expand the definition of ‘migrant workers’ and ‘stranded persons,’ News18 has reported.
The top court has refused to intervene in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)’s order on movement of migrant workers and has also declined to pass an order on train fares.
A plea had sought MHA’s order to be modified so as to allow everyone to go back. The plea had also asked for doing away with the 15 percent fare. More details are awaited.
