The ICMR sought participation of institutions and hospitals identified as dedicated coronavirus hospitals or health centres as part of its project to establish 'National Clinical Registry of COVID-19' to help improve treatment outcomes and analyse trends in the progression of the pandemic.
The aim is to develop a registry to collect data regarding clinical and laboratory features, treatments, and outcomes of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in India.
The objective is also to study the frequency, clinical and laboratory features, treatments, and outcomes of COVID-19 related multisystem inflammatory disorder in children and adolescents by analyzing the national COVID-19 registry, the ICMR said.

University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Thursday said it has decided to resume classes in online mode for about 2,000 ongoing post-graduate students in various programmes from August 20.
The university had suspended classes for all batches on March 15 and has since completed the evaluation process of final semester students, allowing them to graduate, a press release from the varsity said.
Based on projections about the continuing COVID-19 epidemic, a task force headed by senior professor Vinod Pavarala recommended that the university start online teaching, the release said.

The Centre should formulate clear guidelines on the development of vaccines for COVID-19 besides decentralising the authority for fast-tracking testing and approvals, Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao said.
In a letter to Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Harsh Vardhan, he also said as the whole world waits for the first vaccine to get approved, a robust procurement policy should be formulated in consultation with the industry to ensure vaccine availability and its equitable distribution.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and WHO (World Health Organisation) have already published guidelines on the development and the process for issuing licenses for COVID vaccine.
"There is a need for similar guidelines in India to help facilitate the timely development of safe and effective vaccines for COVID-19. These guidelines shall also remove subjectivity and allow all manufacturers to adhere to common guidelines and standards," he said in the letter.

Germany will require people arriving from countries deemed high risk, such as the United States, to take coronavirus tests starting this weekend, the health minister said Thursday, as the country recorded its highest daily tally of new infections in three months.
German officials have voiced alarm over a steady upward creep in the number of new infections over recent weeks. The national disease control center, the Robert Koch Institute, said 1,045 cases were recorded on Wednesday,the first time since May 7 that it has counted more than 1,000 new cases in a day.
Last Saturday, the government started offering free tests for people returning to the country, a move thatHealth Minister Jens Spahn said likely contributed to the increase in recorded cases.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has sounded a note of caution saying that protracted spread of the COVID-19 pandemic poses "downside risk" to the domestic economy which is expected to remain in the negative zone in the current fiscal.
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, while unveiling the bi-monthly monetary policy, also said that early containment of the pandemic could impart an "upside" to the economic growth outlook.
