Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra is once again at the center of a political storm after his recent performance in Mumbai. During his latest show 'Naya Bharat' at the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, Kamra took a jibe at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, referring to him as a "gaddar" (traitor) using a modified version of a song from the Bollywood film Dil To Pagal Hai.

In a full-length video of the act posted on YouTube, Kamra could be seen holding up a slim red pocket edition of the Constitution. "At some point, I will put this video out… and for all the people who won’t like the show, I have something for you," he said before flashing the book. "This is what allows me to do what I do, and in the framework of the book, you can feel free to do anything."

Known for his scathing political humour, Kamra took his satire a step further by performing parody covers of popular Shah Rukh Khan songs. He modified the iconic song Bholi Si Surat from Dil To Pagal Hai to mock Deputy CM Shinde, replacing the lyrics to suggest that he was a “traitor", remarking, “Meri nazar se tum dekho to gaddar nazar wo aaye. Haaye.”

The video of Kamra’s performance quickly went viral, drawing the ire of the Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction. Members of Shiv Sena vandalised the Habitat Comedy Club, as well as Hotel Unicontinental, where the club is located, on Sunday night. The party also staged protests, with its youth wing, Yuva Sena, burning Kamra’s photographs and demanding his arrest.

The Mumbai Police, following a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, has registered an FIR against Kamra under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 353(1)(b) – Statements conducing to public mischief and Section 356(2) – Defamation.
