The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) upgraded the security of Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Thursday following a threat assessment report from the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Over the years, intelligence reports have pointed to potential threats to his life from various sources, including China-backed groups.

Under the Z-category security, he will get a total of 33 security staff in Himachal Pradesh's Dharamshala and outside. News agency PTI quoted its sources as saying said the Dalai Lama would be secured by a Z-category protection cover of CRPF commandos in all parts of the country.
