Here are the recent biggest rail accidents in India:

June 17, 2024: The Kanchanjunga Express train accident occurred at Ruidhasa near Rangapani station in the Katihar Railway Division, ahead of New Jalpaiguri Junction. It resulted in the deaths of at least nine people, including the goods train pilot and the passenger train guard, and injuring 41 others.

June 2, 2023: At least 293 passengers were killed and 1,100 others were injured in the Balasore triple train tragedy in Odisha. The train crash in Odisha involved the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and a goods train.

October 29, 2023: The Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger train collided with the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train, leading to the death of 14 passengers.

October 11, 2023: Bihar North East Express train number 12506 Anand Vihar Terminal-Kamakhya Junction North East Express derailed near Raghunathpur Railway Station in Buxar district of Bihar. Six coaches went off the tracks, causing four fatalities and injuring over 70 passengers

August 25, 2023: A fire broke out in the Lucknow-Rameshwaram Bharat Gaurav train on August 25, 2023. Nine people died, and 20 passengers were injured. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was triggered by a gas cylinder passengers smuggled inside the coach for cooking.

January 13, 2022: At least 12 coaches of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express derailed in West Bengal's Alipurduar, killing 9 dead and leaving 36 others injured.
