During his address at the BRICS Summit in Brazil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Pakistan for harbouring and sponsoring terrorists, while he thanked countries that stood with India in condemning the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.
PM Modi told BRICS leaders that India is a victim of terror, while Pakistan is a supporter, and victims and supporters cannot be weighed on the same scale. In his speech, PM said: "Terrorism is among the most serious challenges facing humanity. Recently, India faced an inhuman and cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam. This was an attack on all of humanity."
In an address at a session on peace and security, Modi said the "cowardly" Pahalgam terror attack was a direct strike on the "soul, identity and dignity" of India.
"For global peace and prosperity, BRICS nations must adopt a clear and unified stance on overcoming terrorism. On a subject like terrorism, there is no room for double standards! If any country provides direct or indirect support to terrorism, it must pay the price for it," PM added.
The prime minister forcefully called for united efforts to combat terrorism and said there should be no hesitation in imposing sanctions against terrorists. "There must be absolutely no hesitation in imposing sanctions against terrorists. We cannot weigh victims of terrorism and its supporters on the same scale. Any silent support or approval to terrorism for personal or political interests must be unacceptable," PM further said.
On his official X handle, PM shared his speech at the BRICS Summit, and wrote, "At the Session on ‘Peace and Security and Reform of Global Governance’ during the BRICS Summit, reiterated India’s commitment to the values of peace and brotherhood. Afterall, world peace and security are the foundations of our shared interests and future."
"India, being the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Gautam Buddha believes that no matter how difficult the circumstances are, the path of peace is the best option for the welfare of humanity. And, India will do everything possible in this direction," he summed up.
In his remarks, Modi also expressed serious concerns over the situation in Gaza. "The humanitarian situation in Gaza is a cause of great concern," he said.
