In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025 – wherein 26 civilians were killed -- the ensuing India-Pakistan tensions highlighted India’s ability to strike terrorist bases deep inside Pakistan without breaching the international boundary

Major airports across the country will soon be equipped with anti-drone systems to counter potential threats posed by rogue drones, News18 reported. The decision comes amid rising global military tensions, including Operation Sindoor (launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack), which demonstrated the growing effectiveness of drones in modern warfare.

This marks the first instance of anti-drone systems being installed at airports that handle only civil aviation. Officials in the Home Affairs Ministry aware of the developments told News18 that a number of high-level meetings have been held to discuss the matter.

While the MHA is supervising the project, a committee set up by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) -- comprising representatives from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and other key stakeholders -- is steering its implementation.

“The specifications of the system are being worked upon. MHA is overseeing related developments and once specifications are finalised, the procurement will begin," a senior officer from the ministry told News18.
