Air India received nine notices for safety violations in six months: Govt

The notices were related to five safety violations, junior civil aviation minister said, without giving any details on the violations

Air India has come under scrutiny after a Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed in the Indian city of Ahmedabad last month, killing 260 people

The Central government on July 21 revealed that Air India has received nine show cause notices in the previous six months for safety violations.

In a reply to Parliament, the junior civil aviation Murlidhar Mohol said the notices were related to five safety violations. However, the minister didn't delve into the details of the violations.

"Enforcement action has been completed in respect of one violation," the minister said.

The development comes as the Tata group-owned airline undergoes heightened scrutiny following the deadly crash of Air India flight 171 bound for London from Ahmedabad. The ill-fated Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed few seconds after take off, killing a total of 260 people.
