The Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday described PM Modi's journey with Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba in a bullet train as 'a journey of friendship and progress'.
PM Modi travelled in a bullet train earlier today to Sendai in the Japanese prefecture of Miyagi in a bullet train to visit a semiconductor plant. Modi was accompanied by his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba during his two-day visit.
"In a unique gesture symbolizing the warmth of the India-Japan friendship, PM @narendramodi and PM @shigeruishiba travelled together to Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture on the Shinkansen," tweeted MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
Earlier, PM Modi met governors of 16 Japanese prefectures, highlighting the potential of state-prefecture collaboration. He urged steps under the State-Prefecture Partnership Initiative, launched during the 15th Annual India-Japan Summit.
"This morning in Tokyo, interacted with the governors of 16 prefectures of Japan. State-prefecture cooperation is a vital pillar of India-Japan friendship. This is also why a separate initiative on it was launched during the 15th Annual India-Japan Summit yesterday," the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
The MEA also shared details of the interaction in a post on X saying, "Taking greater strides in the steadfast India-Japan ties. PM Narendra Modi met with the Governors of 16 prefectures in Tokyo."
Discussions focused on ways to further deepen the growing partnerships between Indian states and Japanese prefectures in the fields of technology, innovation, investment, skills, start-ups and SMEs, the ministry added.
According to the official readout, PM Modi, in his address, underlined that India-Japan ties, drawing vitality from age-old civilisational linkages, continue to flourish.
