Woman mountaineer climbs Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina

Jamshedpur, Feb 17 :PTI: Three Indian mountaineers led by Premlata Agarwal, the first from Jharkhand and oldest Indian women to climb Mt. Everest, have successfully scaled 22,960 ft Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina, South America on February 10. Sharing their experiences here today, Agrawal, flanked by her team members 29-year-old Meghlal Mahto and 24-year-old Binita Soren, said that four others from Chile and Brazil and one each from Australia, Europe and America were also part of the expedition. Barring a male mountaineer from Chile, the rest were unsuccessful in climbing the peak, she said. They set off for the summit on January 29 from Mendoza base camp and reached the peak on the morning of February 10. "While the weather was numbing, the food was not suitable for us and we had to depend on salad, fruit juice, biscuits and water," Agarwal said. Besides Mt. Killimanjaro (Africa) and Mt. Everest (Asia), Mt. Aconcagua was Agarwal’s third successful summit. Agarwal said she was aiming to scale two more summits Denali in Alaska (North America) in April-May and Mt. Vinson in Antartica later this year.
