Ride-hailing major Uber has rolled out 'Uber One' a subscription plan for its users with monthly, quarterly and annual plans as it looks to attract consumers amid rising competition in the ride-hailing segment in India.
To be sure, Uber One has been available to users outside India, including in the US since 2021 and Canada for the past year, but it is a new feature for Indian users.
Globally, Uber has over 25 million Uber One members, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said during the company's third quarter results in November. While this is a first within the ride-hailing market, several food and grocery delivery majors like Swiggy and Zomato have rolled out similar subscription plans.
Uber One subscription plans are priced at Rs 149 monthly, Rs 349 for three months, and Rs 1,499 annually.
Uber One members also receive Uber Credits which is restricted to Rs 150 per trip. Cancellations are only permitted on the annual plan. Once cancelled, users will no longer have access to Uber One credits on their trips or other membership benefits.
Uber has also tied up with Zomato for offers. Uber One members get access to Zomato Gold membership for three months.
The roll-out comes a few after the firm announced a slew of new features to its customers and driver partners. Uber's new features include such as SOS integration, helmet selfie and women rider preference for female drivers – all aimed at making experience for million-plus drivers on its platform "safer, easier and fairer".
Further, in support of the government's Code on Social Security (CoSS), which seeks to provide a safety net for gig workers, Uber announced the promotion of registrations on the e-Shram portal, which is a unified database for gig workers and unorganised workers.
The ride-hailing market is becoming increasingly competitive especially with new entrants like Namma Yatri. Namma Yatri has also been rolling out features to its drivers including a subscription plan. Namma Yatri recently raised $11 million in its pre-series A funding round. The round was led by Blume Ventures and Antler with participation from Google and several other investors.
