Weeks after Zomato launched District, its standalone app for experiences, tickets and going out business, its old rival Swiggy has launched Scenes, in a move that further intensifies the battle between the two food delivery companies.
Through Swiggy Scenes, the company lists events such as NYE parties, live music, DJ Nights and more happening at partner restaurants and sells tickets for the same.
Scenes, like the company’s other offerings, is housed within the main Swiggy app and is limited to experiences. It does not sell movie tickets like District, a separate app from Zomato which continues to follow the superbrands strategy as opposed to the superapps approach like Swiggy.
Scenes is the latest launch by Swiggy, which is diversifying revenue streams beyond food delivery and growing its user base. In Q2FY25, Swiggy saw its monthly transacting users (MTU) increase by a million. The company now has a total user base of 17.1 million, a growth of 7 percent quarter on quarter (QoQ) and an increase of 19 percent year-on-year (YoY).
More recently, Swiggy launched One BLCK, an exclusive, invite-only membership for consumers seeking the highest level of convenience and service.
With One BLCK, the company is mainly going after users who are willing to pay a premium for concierge services, something that Zomato does not currently offer. The Bengaluru-based company and the Gurugram-headquartered firm currently compete in food delivery, quick commerce, dining out and now even ticketing for events.
While Swiggy Scenes is currently live in Bengaluru, it is unclear how many regions the service will scale to and what all experiences will be a part of the offering in the future.
