Food delivery company Swiggy has introduced a group ordering feature that will now allow up to 40 people to place an order at the same time and add different items to one single cart.
So far, if a group of customers, placing an order together, wanted to add their choice of food, they had to do so on one device only. However, Swiggy users can now share a QR code or a link which will let users build the same cart at the same time.
The company said the feature was launched to address 'a party pain point'. The feature will also help Swiggy push up average order values (AOVs), a key operating metric that is tracked to assess a company's performance. It is vital for Swiggy as the food delivery company is preparing to go public later this year.
"Group ordering on Swiggy went live a few days ago and we saw 6 percent of all orders on the first weekend of (the) release being made via the feature … The average order value via group ordering was 3.7X of our usual orders," Swiggy said in its LinkedIn post.
The feature is already live for users and social media was abuzz with screenshots of the new release.
On August 17, Swiggy's rival, Zomato, also launched the same feature. The Gurugram-based company said its users can share a link with their friends and everyone can add to the same cart seamlessly.

"We're gradually rolling it (the group ordering feature) out to all customers as we speak. In case the feature is available to you, please use it for your house party tonight, and tell us how it goes," Deepinder Goyal, co-founder and group CEO of Zomato said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
