Ola Electric on August 15 announced the integration of its indigenously developed 4680 battery cell into two of its key models, the S1 Pro Plus electric scooter and the Roadster X Plus motorcycle, marking a milestone in its localisation push. Deliveries of the updated vehicles will begin post Navaratri.
"We will start deliveries this Navaratri, this is a big milestone for us. Everything inside our scooter is now homegrown, " said Bhavish Aggarwal, founder and chairman of Ola Electric at the company's annual Sankalp event.
The S1 Pro Plus will now retail at Rs 1,69,999, down from Rs 1,99,999, while the Roadster X Plus is priced at Rs 1,89,999, a cut from Rs 2,24,000.
Ola’s cell integration follows the operational launch of its 110-acre Ola Gigafactory, which has begun with an initial capacity of 5 GWh and is slated to be scaled up to 100 GWh in phases.
India’s EV industry is currently dependent on imports of lithium-ion cells from China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea; Ola sources cells from LG Chem in South Korea and suppliers in China.
The company had earlier delayed plans to integrate its homegrown battery cells, citing the need to stabilise new vehicle platforms and improve manufacturing efficiency.

The company also unveiled the S1 Pro Sport, priced at Rs 1,49,999, with bookings opening today and deliveries set to start in January 2026. The S1 Pro Sport comes with a top speed of 152 kmph.
The move comes as Ola Electric posted a consolidated net loss of Rs 428 crore in Q1FY26, narrower than the Rs 870 crore loss in Q4FY25 but higher than the Rs 347 crore loss in Q1FY25.
Revenue for the quarter fell to Rs 828 crore, down 49.6 percent year-on-year from Rs 1,644 crore. Despite the revenue drop, the company turned EBITDA positive in the June quarter.
With the rollout beginning in the S1 Pro Plus and Roadster X Plus, complete backward integration is expected in phases, though Ola Electric has not committed to a firm timeline.
The company also teased its upcoming flagship motorcycle, the DiamondHead, which will feature Ola Electric’s advanced battery cell technology and a homegrown AI chip developed by Krutrim, the AI venture founded by Ola’s Bhavish Aggarwal.
Targeted for delivery by 2027, the premium electric motorcycle is expected to be priced at around Rs 5 lakh.
