Swiggy Instamart has appointed former Flipkart executive Ankit Jain as Senior Vice President – Operations, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. Jain will oversee end-to-end operations at Swiggy’s quick commerce business, including supply chain management, dark store operations, delivery experience, and network expansion.
Moneycontrol was the first to report Jain’s move to Instamart earlier this month. He replaces Sairam Krishnamurthy, who served as Instamart’s first chief operating officer and stepped down recently.
Jain is expected to work closely with Instamart CEO Amitesh Jha—his former colleague at Flipkart—at a time when the 10-minute delivery market is heating up.
"Operations at Instamart have seen strong momentum over the past few months—enabling our presence in 120+ cities, expanding into new categories, and scaling our infrastructure with the record addition of 300+ dark stores and mega pods last quarter," Jha said. “Ankit’s deep, hands-on experience across e-commerce, retail, and FMCG will be a strong force in further strengthening our operations, leading the way in delivery speed, availability, and assortment for our consumers.”
Jain brings more than two decades of experience in supply chain management and operations. At Flipkart, he served as SVP and headed grocery and large supply chain functions, overseeing warehousing, material movement, and last-mile logistics.
He also led the design team at Ekart, Flipkart’s logistics arm. Before that, Jain spent over 14 years at Unilever, where he held senior roles in demand planning and logistics across multiple global markets.
“I’ve long admired Instamart’s operational excellence—from pioneering the quick commerce model to building a robust network of dark stores and setting the benchmark for delivery speed,” Jain said. “I’m particularly excited by the scale and complexity of the business and the opportunity to work on some cutting-edge solutions to improve its operations, especially as Instamart adds new cities and diversifies its category mix—all while staying true to the 10-minute delivery promise.”
Jain’s appointment adds to a string of senior-level exits at Walmart-owned Flipkart in recent weeks. Apart from Jain, at least three other top leaders have resigned or are in the process of moving on—Prajakta Kanaglekar (VP, HR for technology), Anurag Singhvi (VP, head of analytics), and Ganesh Ramaswamy (VP at Flipkart and CPTO of Cleartrip).
His move comes at a time when both Flipkart and Instamart prepare for a more aggressive battle in India’s fast-growing quick commerce space. Flipkart Minutes—Flipkart’s upcoming 10- to 15-minute delivery service—is being positioned to compete more directly with Swiggy Instamart, Blinkit, Zepto, and others.
With Jain on board, Instamart is looking to deepen its operational capabilities as it pushes into more cities and expands into categories beyond groceries, including personal care, home essentials, and snacks.
