PSMC has given the nation access to a wide portfolio of technology, believes Tata Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran.
"Today is a special day for India and Tata Group. These semicon plants will be very important for the nation. PSMC has given us access to a wide portfolio of technology. Semicon is the foundational industry for everything digital. We will create more than 50,000 jobs and this is just the beginning," said N Chandra, addressing 'India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat'.
He further noted, "Chip shortages during pandemic made us realise our dependency on international supply chain. Domestic semicon industry is integral to indigenous industry". "Semicon chips have defining role to play in every industry- auto, AI, defence, green tech, health, and every other industry".
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for three semiconductor facilities, marking a monumental leap towards India's technological sovereignty.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw hailed the occasion, remarking on India's decades-long pursuit of a semiconductor industry, which has finally materialized under the visionary leadership of PM Modi. He emphasized the significance of this milestone, asserting that future generations will reverently recall this historic day.
Vaishnaw underscored the foundational importance of the semiconductor industry, stating that it permeates every aspect of modern life, from household appliances to advanced technology like smartphones. He emphasized that PM Modi's unwavering vision places semiconductor development at the forefront of India's technological evolution.
Addressing the youth of the nation, Vaishnaw urged them to consider PM Modi's commitment to India's future as they make crucial decisions, highlighting the Prime Minister's unparalleled dedication to steering the country towards technological self-reliance and prosperity.
Vaishnaw, speaking at the Summit, said, "A period comes in every country's history when the foundation for its future is laid and it gets a new identity in the world. This is only possible when the country's leadership is visionary, decisive and forward looking. Today, the country has this kind of leadership under PM Modi," says , speaking at 'India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat'.
India's semiconductor industry is gaining momentum with Tata Group's Dholera plant set to unveil the nation's first indigenous chip by 2026. With a massive investment of Rs 91,000 crore, the joint venture between Tata Electronics and PSMC promises a manufacturing capacity of 50,000 wafers per month. Equipped with advanced factory automation, the facility aims to produce not only high-performance compute chips but also power management chips for various sectors including electric vehicles, telecom, defense, automotive, consumer electronics, displays, and power electronics.
