Q: We were talking about how do you navigate your way through the equity market, what are the requirements that you need to start trading?

A: Clearly, the first thing that you need to do in today’s time and environment is you require a broking account, which helps you for execution and you require a demat account where your stocks will be lying for you as such. These are two important parameters. You need to go out there and look for a good Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) registered stock broker, you need to ask for the SEBI registration, see that there is not an unauthorized person through whom you are dealing and so on and so forth. Then you need to look at his infrastructure maybe do a little bit of research on your own if you want, you go on to the SEBI site and see if he has been blacklisted in the past, you probably run some reference check as such because this is now a very well regulated industry. So you just need to do a little bit of that as such as the beginning point. Also again depending on what your appetite is in terms of do you want just a pure execution specialist or do you want to supplement that with research. So then you need to look at the research capabilities or the idea generation capabilities of their broker as such. Also if you want to put your money with the broker who was a portfolio management, you need to see if he has that or if you want to trade in commodities then you need to go and find out that if he has that license, so essentially these are a few checklists that you need to do.
