Budget 2025 wish list: What the middle-class tax-payers expect from FM Nirmala Sitharaman on Feb 1

As the Union Budget 2025 is set to be unveiled on February 1, taxpayers across the board - from middle-class families and young professionals to senior citizens - are eagerly awaiting the announcement, each with their own set of budget expectations.

SR Patnaik, Partner and Head of Taxation at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, suggests that the government should offer specific benefits to the middle class, including capping the maximum tax rate at 30 percent under the new tax regime. This cap would include surcharge and cess. Additionally, Patnaik recommends introducing specific benefits, such as higher deductions for housing loans, within the new regime.
