Have enough evidence to file petition, says CBI on Bofors case

CBI officials today told a parliamentary panel looking into the Bofors deal that they have enough evidence to file a special leave petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court in a case pertaining to the defence deal.

CBI’s submission came even as Attorney General K K Venugopal had advised the government that the investigating agency should not file a SLP in a case related to the Bofors gun payoff as it is likely to be dismissed.

The bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra is scheduled to hear a case on February 2, on the plea filed by BJP leader Ajay Aggarwal.

Blue Dart Express Q3 net profit jumps 62% to Rs 45.4 crore

Blue Dart Express Ltd today reported a 62 per cent rise in standalone net profit to Rs 45.4 crore for the third quarter ended December 31.

The company had posted Rs 28 crore net profit in the year-ago period, Blue Dart Express said in a filing to BSE.

However, the company's total income in the quarter under review declined to Rs 710.3 crore, from Rs 726.5 crore in the corresponding period previous fiscal

EPFO: Firms can pay dues, update ownership details online

Taking another step towards going paperless, retirement fund body EPFO today said it has launched facilities for employers to pay dues and update ownership details online.

Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has provided facility of online submission of Form 5A (Return of Ownership), it said in a statement.

EPFO added it has discontinued the physical submission of the form.

The Income Tax department has again cracked its whip and this time it is on properties owned by Shah Rukh Khan. The department has provisionally attached Khan’s Alibag property, according to areportin Business Standard.

An attachment notice has been issued under the the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act (PBPT) in December for Khan’s Deja Vu Farms Pvt Ltd located at Alibag, a beach town in Maharashtra.

Taxi rider held for molesting US tourist in Goa

A middle-aged motorcycle taxi rider was arrested today for allegedly molesting a US woman tourist on January 27, police said.

Isidore Fernandes was picked up from Anjuna village after the woman, who is in her 20s, took to social media and posted the picture of the accused, according to police.

"Police then asked the woman to file a formal complaint of molestation with Pernem police station as she was staying in a hotel at Morjim village," said North Goa SP Chandan Chaudhury.

lifts ban on refugees from 11 countries

The United States has announced it was lifting its ban on refugees from 11 "high-risk" countries, but said those seeking to enter the US would come under much tougher scrutiny than in the past.

Applicants from 11 countries, unnamed but understood to include 10 Muslim-majority nations plus North Korea, will face tougher "risk-based" assessments to be accepted.

"It's critically important that we know who is entering the United States," said Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
