Nazara Technologies subsidiary Fusebox Games is developing an interactive fiction game based on the popular reality television show Bigg Boss, as part of its efforts to expand its gaming portfolio, the company said on January 15.
The UK-based gaming studio has struck an exclusive partnership with Banijay Rights, the global distribution arm of media and entertainment giant Banijay Entertainment, to develop the game. The company didn’t share terms of the partnership. Banijay-owned Endemol Shine India produces the reality show in India.
"Bigg Boss is a cultural phenomenon that resonates deeply across India. At Fusebox Games, we are excited to reimagine this iconic format as an immersive, interactive experience that fans can engage with in entirely new ways," Fusebox CEO Terry Lee said.
The game, slated to release later this year, will allow players to step into the Bigg Boss House, create their avatars and navigate different narratives inspired by the show’s most memorable moments, the company said.
It will also feature live in-game events synchronised with the television series, branching storylines, and localised narratives in Hindi and regional Indian languages.
"This partnership with Banijay Rights underscores our commitment to delivering compelling, localised interactive fiction games that resonate deeply with audiences, not only in India but around the world," Lee said.
As part of the partnership, Fusebox Games said it is also working on a similar interactive game based on the Dutch reality show Big Brother, which launches this year.
“Bigg Boss and Big Brother have captured the hearts of millions of viewers worldwide. Our partnerships with Nazara and Fusebox Games open exciting new possibilities, creating immersive ways for fans to engage with these iconic brands,” Mark Woollard, SVP Gaming & Gambling, Banijay Rights, said in a statement.
Nazara Technologies acquired Fusebox Games for Rs 228 crore ($27.2 million) in August 2024 to strengthen its gaming business.
Founder Nitish Mittersain expects the segment to become the biggest revenue generator for the diversified gaming and sports media firm in the coming years.
Fusebox Games typically develops intellectual property (IP)-driven interactive story games and has previously developed titles such as Love Island and Love Villa based on the popular British reality show Love Island.
At 2.21 pm, the Nazara Technologies stock was trading at Rs 930.10 on the National Stock Exchange, up 3.34 percent from the previous close.
