HDFC Mutual Fund sells bank, consumer non-durables; buys IT

HDFC Mutual Fund has slashed its exposure in the banking & financial services, consumer non-durables and food & beverages sectors, while increased its weightage in information technology, cement & construction and oil & gas space.

HDFC Mutual Fund has slashed its exposure in the banking & financial services, consumer non-durables and food & beverages sectors, while increased its weightage in information technology, cement & construction and oil & gas space.

Marico, Britannia Industries and Rural Electrification Corp were the top sells, while Coal India, Tube Investments and Punj Lloyd were the top buys. A study of the HDFC Mutual Fund portfolio for the month of December 2010 showed that in the banking & financial services space, it sold SBI, Bank Of Baroda and Rural Electrification Corporation. However, it bought HDFC Bank, HDFC and Federal Bank. It also introduced Punjab & Sind Bank in the same space. (View - All Bulk Deals by Mutual Funds). In the consumer non-durables segment the fund sold Marico, Emami and Colgate Palmolive. It sold Britannia Industries and GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare in the food & beverages sector. The buying was seen in the information technology pack, where it purchased Infosys Technologies, TCS and introduced Zee Learn. (Check out - Which sectors are attracting Fund Managers?). In the cement & construction space, it introduced KCP and Ashoka Buildcon. It also bought Simplex Infrastructures, Nagarjuna Construction and ILandFS Transportation Networks. It purchased Reliance Industries, GAIL India and ONGC in the oil & gas space.
