As the countdown to the big verdict for US presidential election begins, a CNN poll of polls is giving a 4-point lead to Democrat Hillary Clinton. Market experts expect that Clinton’s election to the post of US President will lead to a decent rally in the markets. They say Republican Donald Trump at the White House may bring down markets.
Port Shelter Investment Management expects emerging markets to rally if developed markets see a good rally in next 2-3 weeks on a Clinton victory, said CEO Richard Harris. He added that he expects Clinton should do well on the foreign stage if she succeeds Obama as the 45th President of United States.
Bruno Verstraete of Lakefield Partners said that markets may have factored in Clinton winning the election, adding that markets may fall sharply if Trump wins. He added that the US dollar may weaken if Trump wins.
From an India standpoint for the election results, the restriction on exit polls will lift at 3:30 am IST on Wednesday and polling booths will shut around 5:30-6:30 am IST. Final results are typically known in a couple of hours after polling ends. By 9:30-10:30 am IST on Wednesday tomorrow morning, the verdict will show who succeeds Barack Obama at the White House.
Meanwhile, both the leading candidates wrapped up their campaigns on Monday night. Republican Donald Trump held his last rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan — a crucial battleground state.
