The Ministry of Labour and Employment of Maharashtra has issued a notice to information technology major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) over a complaint of delaying onboarding of “200 lateral recruits” filed by a Pune-based IT union.
As per the letter issued by the government, a joint meeting of management has been called on November 2, 2023, in the morning to present TCS’ case.
“Joint meeting of management regarding redressal of grievances/settlement on 02/11/2023 in the morning / 12.00 noon. in the presence of the undersigned at the office at the above address and you should be present at the said meeting in person or through an authorised representative with the appropriate documents,” the Marathi-translated letter reads.

In July, Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India highlighting the “delayed onboarding of over 200 lateral recruits by TCS”. Later, the complaint was transferred to the Maharashtra government.
However, Harpreet Singh Saluja, President of NITES now alleges that the number of candidates impacted by onboarding delay has reached 2,000.
“These employees, who possess varying levels of experience ranging from 1.8 to up to 15 years, are now left jobless and without any source of income,” the complaint read.
In addition, NITES urged the Ministry to intervene in this matter and issue specific directives to TCS to pay the affected employees their full salaries for the months for which their onboarding has been delayed. It also asked to provide the affected employees with access to TCS's employee assistance program.
Moneycontrol earlier reported that lateral recruits across cities including Bangalore, Pune, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, Delhi NCR, and Indore to name a few are impacted by the delays.
These joinees were hired between January and April and were initially facing onboarding delays by a month. Many of them got two to three subsequent new joining dates. On July 10, however, many received emails stating that their joining dates were getting pushed to October.
