The share of fruits and vegetables in India’s total crop output increased to 28.2 percent in 2022-23 from 24.1 percent in 2011-12. Until 2013-14, cereals had a larger share of the pie, but the trend has changed since.

Wheat and rice dominate the country’s crop output, but a Moneycontrol analysis shows that their share in basket has declined over the last decade.

In 2022-23, the two of India’s most common staples contributed 23.2 percent to the country’s total crop output in real terms, compared with 24.2 percent in 2011-12.
