It is very rare for one RBI governor to cross question other RBI governors. However, the centre for advanced financial research and learning pulled off this rare feat in Delhi recently.
It invited the just-retired governor D Subbarao, to question his predecessors Y V Reddy and Bimal Jalan on many uncomfortable questions: RBI’s independence, its inability to control inflation; view on currency management, relations with the finance ministry - in fact topics that you never hear governors discuss publicly.
